    Jane Lynch visits UCD

On the 22 September 2016, UCD’s Dramatic Society and the UCD Literary & Historical Society dually presented Jane Lynch with an Honorary Fellowship and the James Joyce Award, for her outstanding contribution to theatre and the performing arts.

The Honorary Fellowship is awarded by Dramsoc to those who have achieved excellence in various aspects of theatre. Previous recipients include the actor Ralph Fiennes and the playwright Conor McPherson. The James Joyce award is awarded by the L&H to those who have achieved outstanding success in their given field. Previous actors to receive the award include Martin Freeman and Alan Rickman.

Jane Lynch, best known for her roles in television series such as Best in Show, Two and a Half Men, and Glee, spoke to over 200 students in a packed Theatre M about her experiences on stage and in television. She discussed everything from the intricacies of voice-over acting during Wreck-It Ralph to her favourite shower song. Her parting advice to students, in keeping with the humour of the evening: “Don’t have goals”.
