WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUCE THAT AILBHE SMYTH IS RECEIVING THE JAMES JOYCE AWARD! WEDNESAY, 6PM, FitzGerald Debating Chamber. Ailbhe Smyth is a writer, academic and activist, who was at the centre of the campaign to legalise divorce, same-sex marriage and the campaign to repeal the 8th amendment to the Irish Constitution, where she was a co-director for the Together for Yes campaign. In 2019 Ailbhe was named one of Time Magizine’s 100 Most Influential People, alongside the other co-directors of the Together for Yes campaign. Ailbhe both studied and lectured in UCD, where she founded the Women’s Education, Resource, and Research Centre. Ailbhe is also prominently featured in “The 8th” a film that follows the efforts of campaigns like Together for Yes to repeal the 8th Amendment.
