Come along and visit UCD Hort Soc all week in the Old Student Centre. There will be free baked goods and tea available all day everyday including our Hort Soc special Vegan Brownies 😀 What is Climate Change you ask? Climate change is any significant long-term change in the expected patterns of average weather of a region (or the whole Earth) over a significant period of time. Climate change is about abnormal variations to the climate, and the effects of these variations on other parts of the Earth. Examples include melting of the ice caps at the South Pole and North Pole. These changes may take tens, hundreds or perhaps millions of years. Why is this a big deal and why is it hapenning so quickly? Answer: Humans. The burning of fossil fuels, increasing carbon emissions, the clearing of forests and intense agriculture practices to name but a few. For these reasons and more our planet has reached uncharted territory. CO2 levels have broken all known records and the earth is warming at unprecedented rates. Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. The consequences are already here and about to get a lot worse. So what can we do now? RESPECT THE EARTH. It's so simple. Come visit us in the student centre and we will answer any queries you may have and inform you on how you can be a good ambassador for your planet.
