Is drone warfare cost free? Modern War and the controversies will be discussed by a panel of experts. In collaboration with the School of Politics and International Relations, we invite you to this intense discussion. Guest Speakers are: Professor Caroline Kennedy who is the Head of the School of Politics, Philosophy and International Studies at the University of Hull. She is a professor of war studies and is currently working on IEDs, Drones and the effects of Drone Strikes in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen. She is also working on the future maritime security implications of the High North as well as leading on the University India and South East Asia Project. Dr. James Rogers is Associate Lecturer in International Politics at the University of York. His research focuses on War, Strategy, and International Relations Theory. His work has appeared in the International Journal of Human Rights, International Peacekeeping, and the Guardian. James’ monograph, entitled ‘The Evolution of Precision Warfare’, is forthcoming in 2017. James’ current research project (funded by the Oxford Research Group) studies the legacies of Drone Warfare. Dr. Ciaran Gillespie is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey specializing in international politics and security. His background is in the critical analysis of security policy with a focus on understanding intervention from the perspective of sub-state populations. His doctoral thesis was an exploration of the impact of US military aid on human security in Pakistan. He is interested in research on foreign policy and political violence, looking particularly at the efficacy of the foreign intervention and its impact on security.
