Our first FAVS talk of the year promises to be a good one. It will be given by Conor Beirne, who wowed us all last year with his experiences of the role of a vet in large scale dairy farming in Saudi Arabia. This year he will be turning his hand to a topic a bit closer to home - the problem of bovine respiratory disease. Conor will discuss approaches to cases and how to solve them. This talk will be of interest to all but especially 3rd years studying Micro and 4th & 5th years getting ready for working in practice! Conor graduated from UCD in 1998 before working in a number of large animal practices around the country. In 2012 he completed an MBA at the UCD Smurfit Business School. Following that in 2013 he went to work in Saudi Arabia as a Senior Vet. After two years he returned to Ireland working as a Senior Vet for DairyMaster. In 2015/16 he completed the Grad Cert in Dairy Herd Health in UCD. In Spring 2016 he returned to large animal practice where he worked with Geraghty and Neary Veterinary while continuing to work on dairy projects in Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Conor is now Area Veterinary Manager for Zoetis providing technical advice and information to veterinary surgeons in the West and North Leinster. In his spare time he farms with his father in Strokestown, Co. Roscommon. This talk is generously sponsored by Zoetis. Tea/coffee/biscuits before and pizza as usual after! ***7pm Thursday, VET 115*
