UCD Dance-a-THON is a 12 hour dance marathon event to bring the community together in order to better the lives of children suffering from long-term and/or terminal illness.
Dancers are asked to raise money and vow to dance/stay standing for 12 hours to show solidarity for children afflicted by the ailments previously mentioned. Dancing for 12 hours and putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation represents the uncomfortable position these children find themselves in day in and day out. Though we can't experience exactly what they are going through, we can definitely try to by putting ourselves in an uncomfortable situation; in an environment that also celebrates these children and the immense amount of strength they show.
Our hope is to raise money and attain our goal of €10,500 through the support of the attendees and the community; the attendees are asked to pay a €3 entry fee and are encouraged to raise at least €25 through family and friends before attending the event. At the end of the night we will reveal the amount we have raised and all funds will be donated to the Temple Street Hospital and IHCPT.
The Temple Street Children's Hospital aims to help children through specialised treatment options needed for children who cannot be treated in the same manner as an adult. http://www.cuh.ie/
IHCPT specializes in allowing children with special needs to be able to travel to Lourdes so they may enjoy themselves outside of a hospital setting. http://
