⮚ It is hoped that hands-on activities will engage archaeology students in a way that classroom learning is limited (i.e. practical engagement with knowledge & materials of the past). Hands-on activities/crafts allow those with an interest in the past to explore that interest and gain a personal insight into technologies of the past. In a face-to-face setting, group hands-on activities & crafts give participants something to focus on (and a talking point), while getting the opportunity to interact with new classmates and others with similar interests in an informal way. This can remove some of the social awkwardness that is the mainstay of 1st year class introductions. ⮚ Ideally these workshops will be held in-person in the Centre for Experimental Archaeology & Material Culture (CEAMC). Participants will be required to wear face-masks, and have a personal supply of hand sanitiser, and social distancing guidelines will apply. If we cannot meet in-person, these workshops will operate via Zoom. In this case, participants will be guided through the day`s activity, have the opportunity to chat with other participants, and show off their activity progress!
