    Event Description

So you've stood up and given a speech in front of a panel of judges, trying to convince them to give you that sweet, sweet first and now you want to have a go at being one of them? Well, on Wednesday at 2pm in Meeting Rooms 5,6,7, LawSoc's Mairéad O'Leary and Shane Sweeney from the L&H will be telling you all that you need to know in order to become a top-class judge. Everything from what to look out for in a speech to what will make you stand out when judging so you can that lucrative judging break will be covered so you can't afford to miss this. Mairead has broken at 14 university competitions as a judge, including being a panellist for the finals of the Earlsfort Open 2018 and the GUU Cup, and the semi-finals of KCL Open 2018, the Maynooth Open 2018, National Maidens 2018 and the Earlsfort Open 2018 where she was chair. She has also represented LawSoc at the European University Debating Championships as a judge in both 2017 and 2018. Shane has judged the semi-finals of the Galway Open 2018, National Maidens 2018, the Cork Open 2018, where he chaired round 3 and the Earlsfort Open 2018, where he chaired round 5. He also was a panellist for the final of the Cork Open, where has requested for it to be said that he was vice-chair (it's still yet to be decided whether there is such a thing). He also represented the L&H this summer at the European University Debating Championships as a judge. As a speaker, Shane has broken at the Cork IV 2017. Come along if you want to find out what is needed to be a judge or just want to see what the judges want to hear. This will be highly beneficial for anyone who is judging at Maidens, Junior Schools or Senior Schools.
