The Big One. In 1921, The Government of Ireland Act divided the island of Ireland into two distinct jurisdictions, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. This Act has proved to be the single most divisive piece of legislation ever enacted on this island, with the resulting Partition leading a conflict which has caused the deaths of over 3,500 people, over half of whom were civilians. With Brexit looming and Stormont ceasing to function, the prospect of a United Ireland is as relevant now as it ever was. This Tuesday, come see leading political voices from both the Nationalist and Unionist sides of the divide, and decide for yourself whether a United Ireland is likely, or even to be desired. This event is free for all LawSoc members, with signups at the door. This is one not to be missed!
