With steps being taken to introduce philosophy into the new junior cert syllabus, these are exciting times for philosophy in education. The work of many, including Philosophy Ireland, has pushed philosophy into the public eye. Join Philsoc for a panel discussion this Thursday on the value of philosophy in education. Check out the facebook event here. Guest speakers: Dr. Charlotte Blease is a cognitive scientist and philosopher of medicine. She is currently Research Fellow at the School of Philosophy, University College Dublin, and Research Affiliate at the Program in Placebo Studies, Harvard Medical School. Gerry Dunne lectures in the area of Philosophy of Education at Marino Institute of Education. Over the past eight years, he has also worked in the area of teacher education in Trinity College Dublin, both as a supervisor, and an adjunct lecturer on the PME programme. Dr. Áine Mahon is Lecturer in Education in the School of Education at University College Dublin. She researches and teaches in the Philosophy of Education and the Philosophy of Literature. Deborah Quigley holds an honours degree in Philosophy and Theology and is a graduate of the Milltown Institute of Theology & Philosophy and Trinity College Dublin. Deborah has fifteen years teaching experience in the Irish secondary school and is currently teaching Philosophy as a transition year module in St. Dominic’s Secondary School in Ballyfermot Dublin.
