Join us to learn all the basics about taiko from our very own, Taiko Captain Cillian! "Taiko" (as used in English) is a traditional form of Japanese drumming. In Japanese, "taiko" simply refers to a large range of drums or percussive instruments and oh boy, do we have a large range of drums for you to try out. Join us to learn some of the basics of playing our fantastic drums. Learn how to hold your bachi (drumsticks), the proper stance and maybe even some basic rhythms. We welcome all levels of musical experience, so don't be shy! This workshop is also a great opportunity to find out if you want to join UCD's Taiko Team. The team practices weekly and has the opportunity to perform at the annual Experience Japan Festival in April! Taiko has a fantastic mix of music, culture and athleticism, so there's something for everyone. Please contact japanese.society@ucd.ie with any queries.
