Following the visit from the Queen's Archaeology Society in November last year, the UCD Archaeology Society will be going on an overnight trip to Queen's University Belfast. The trip will take place from Thursday 23 February 2017 to Friday 24 February 2017. Members will made their own way there using public transport to a pre-arranged meeting spot in Belfast and hostel accommodation will be booked in advance by the society. Places are limited for this trip and a €10 deposit must be paid in the coffee morning on Thursday 9 February 2017 (10 am -12pm, Blue Room). (Accommodation will cost around €20.) Itinerary: Following our arrival in Belfast the society will be given a tour of QUB's Geospatial facilities followed by seminars on Rathlin Island (given by Finbar McCormick) and Maltese Temples (given by Carloine Malone). In the evening we will attend an official lecture in the Ulster Museum about Constantinople given by Bettany Hughes. After the event the Queen's Society will take us out for drinks. On Friday the society will visit the Giant's Ring (a Neolithic portal tomb and earthworks) and Carrickfergus Castle led by Ruairi O'Boyle (QUB). The Head of the UCD School of Archaeology has granted permission for members to miss archaeology classes provided that they are on the trip and that the module co-ordinators have been notified of their absence (the society will provide the school with a list). Permission must be sought from other schools on an individual basis. Details regarding full cost, meeting times and bus schedule will be confirmed nearer the time. Keep an eye on your UCD email and the UCD Archaeology Society Facebook page for updates.
