    • 14 Dec 2018 to 14 Dec 2018
    • UCD Student Centre,Red Room

    Event Description

My Queer Diary' is written by Elijah Quinn and Hayleigh McGowan and directed by Elijah Quinn. This show will be in Week 4 (11th - 15th February) of Semester 2 at 1pm. “You want everything. Fine! How about this? You're hurting me. Every time you misgender me, call me ‘she’, dead name me! How much that physically hurts me. Makes me want to tear off my skin cause it feels so alien to me. That sometimes I'll spend hours upon hours scrubbing my skin till it’s raw just to turn the mental agony into something I can attempt to understand!” My Queer Diary is the story of a young genderqueer teen's coming to terms with his identity through the age-old Coming Out narrative, in order to explore modern ideas of discrimination towards the Irish Trans Community. The piece comments on everything from lack of LGBTQ+ education, the overtly long trans healthcare lists and Ireland's lack of Hate Crime legislation. All shown through the diary entries of our protagonist Blake. There are two principal roles: Blake: A trans man coming to terms with his own identity and how it changes his relationships with friends and loved ones. Amelia: Blake's childhood best friend and roommate who is going through the motions of Blakes Transition by his side. She is a stubborn and hard-headed individual. We will also be auditioning for a group of 4 to 5 minor characters who are needed to film some of the footage that will be shown during the performance. Audition Times: Friday 14th in the Quad Room from 5 till 8pm Tuesday 18th in the Quad Room from 12 till 5pm Audition Pieces: For the audition, actors will be asked to prepare either one of the monologues provided.
