I won't have you folk spoiling my war for me. I'm told it kills off the weak, but they're write-off in peacetime too. And war gives its people a better deal.’ War torn Europe of the Thirty Years' War. Soldiers march through desolate wastes and abandoned villages. Through this turmoil travels the conniving saleswoman, Mother Courage with her three children. Always looking to make a bargain, peddling from her canteen, she sees a business opportunity where others see destruction, not discriminating between enemy or ally. Courage’s journey explores the mechanics of war through satire, music and dark humour in this modernist piece of Epic Theatre.
