This week we are delighted to have Nick Garvey down to talk to us about Sheep Medicine and the XLVets Graduate Mentoring programme which will be launched next year in Room VET115 at 7pm. Nick qualified as a vet in 2000 and has worked with Old Church Veterinary Hospital, Donegal (an XLVets Member Practice) since then. He became a partner in 2006. Nick has a keen interest in all areas of mixed practice including sheep medicine - he also has 5 pet alpacas! Nick is a frequent speaker at cattle and sheep conferences around the country including the CAVI conference and National Sheep Conference. Nick hopes to discuss the most relevant and important diseases and also touch on some flock healthissues. Nick is the current chairman of XLVets, a group of 25 progressive practices who are working together to achieve a better future for our veterinary businesses. The XLVets team have developed a New Graduate Mentoring Programme which will be launched next year. This programme will span across all areas of veterinary medicine including large, small and equine. This programme aims to help new graduates as they settle into their new profession and ensure that help and advice is always available. This mentoring programme will also include relevant Continued Professional Development (CPD). Nick will discuss this is in more detail on the night, so this is a talk not to be missed especially for those who will be graduating in the coming years and intending on working in Ireland. This talk is kindly sponsored by MSD and Joanne Cregg (technical adviser) will be briefly discussing the important sheep vaccines available beforehand. Free tea, coffee and pizza will be provided.
