Our FAVS talk this week will encompass all areas of cow fertility and genetics. Mark Butz of Genosource will be joining us all the way from Iowa, USA. He is speaking at the National Dairy Show in Milstreet this week, and will be joining us on Wednesday to give us an insight into modern day advancements in the area of bovine reproduction. Genetic improvement of dairy herds is proving to be a massive area in modern day veterinary medicine. This talk will be highly relevant to 2nd & 4th years studying Repro and Genetics modules as well as anyone else with a particular interest in dairy. About Mark & Genosource: GenoSource was formed in 2014 by a diverse group of individuals; Mark Butz (Butz-Hill), Tim and Jennifer Rauen (TJR Genetics), Steve and Joanne Rauen, Tom and Rick Simon (Farnear Holsteins) and investment broker Pat Carroll. Deep roots in the dairy industry, this group saw the opportunity to have a bigger recipient pool for genetics while build a milking herd of cows with a high genetic level that would be most profitable for the long term. The accumulation of three farms, a 2800 cow dairy in Blairstown, Iowa, a 600 cow dairy located in Quincy, Illinois, and their heifer raising facility in Fremont, Iowa, sitting on 2100 acres of grass and row crop, provide the basis for this successful operation. http://www.genosource.com/ Tea, Coffee, Pizza and biscuits as per!
