Our first talk back after the break will be given this Wednesday by Laura Cuddy in Room 115 at 7pm. Laura has kindly agreed to come back to UCD deliver this talk to us. Laura will be focussing on canine orthopaedics using real-life cases to work through the most common conditions we should recognise in practice. Most of you will be familiar with Laura and will know this is a talk not to be missed. For those of you who don't...Laura graduated from University College Dublin in 2008 with a first class honors degree in Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Laura was subsequently accepted into the four year combined Masters of Science and residency programme in small animal surgery at UF, and was awarded the prestigious American Association of Veterinary Clinicians Annual Resident Award in 2013. Laura joined the faculty in UCD in 2013 as a lecturer and clinician in small animal surgery. She was welcomed as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in March 2014 and as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in July 2014. She was welcomed as Diplomate of the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) in 2015. Her research interests include orthopaedic biomechanics, specifically relating to medial coronoid disease in dogs, as well novel minimally-invasive and endoscopic-assisted techniques. She has been honoured with several awards for her research, most notably the Veterinary Orthopaedic Society Mark S. Bloomberg and ACVS Symposium Awards in 2011. Although Laura maintains a strong interest in all aspects of orthopaedic, soft tissue, neurologic and oncologic surgery, her main clinical interests reflect her advanced training at UF in minimally-invasive techniques, including arthroscopy, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, endoscopic-assisted techniques and minimally-invasive fracture repair. Tea, coffee, biscuits and pizza provided as always!
