    Event Description

    UCD Politics and International Relations Society presents ActionAid Ireland's women's rights programme, funded by Irish Aid It is currently being implemented in Malawi, Kenya, Vietnam and Nepal. The aims of the programme are:

    1. Ending violence against women and girls in public and private spaces
    2. Creating economic alternatives for women - including the recognition, redistribution, and reduction of women's unpaid care work, and supporting the development women-only cooperatives and collectives
    The Irish Aid funded women’s rights programme follows the HRBA approach and supports local women’s groups to empower them to stand up for their rights in their own communities. The talk will incorporate case studies, visual exercises, an overview of the women’s rights landscape in the countries ActionAid works in and an explanation of the HRBA approach. Triona Pender has over ten years development experience, working overseas in Bolivia and Malawi, before joining ActionAid Ireland in 2013.
