When you think of Malaysia, you should think of DIVERSITY, FOOD, FESTIVALS, and FOOD (no this is not a typo). The diverse cuisines, many languages, and unique festivals make us the melting pot of culture that we are. Being Malaysian is embracing the absolute love and respect for one another despite how different we can be. We love coming together and spending quality time to feel a strong sense of familiarity.
Throughout the academic year, the Malaysian Society hosts a variety of events:
o Welcoming Reception : We introduce the committee and upcoming plans to our new members with a Malaysian dinner to go.
o Teh Tarik evenings : Conversations over a hot cup of teh tarik (an infamous Malaysian milk tea)
o Chinese New Year Celebration : We welcome the Lunar New Year with pineapple jam tarts, yee sang(also known as Prosperity Toss) and games like Mahjong.
o Bake Sales : An array of Malaysian delicacies, with all profits to charity.
o Malaysian Night : Our annual flagship event – a night of acting and performing that showcases the beauty of Malaysia.
o Spring Games : Sports like futsal, netball and captain ball
o Malaysian Gala : A Malaysian dinner as a farewell for fellow Malaysians who are completing their studies and leaving Dublin soon.
While physical get-togethers are on hold, we are still set on packing this term with exciting online activities for everyone. Whether that may be talking about Nasi Lemak over Zoom or reminiscing about the festivals back home (☹️), we hope you join us in bringing a piece of Malaysia to UCD.
To our international friends, let us show you what it means to be a part of a bustling, multiracial family. And to our fellow Malaysians – selamat datang to your new home away from home.
